Peak performance begins with optimized sleep.

That was a reoccurring theme at our most recent salon in San Francisco. In the private wine library at Verjus, a curated group of founders and innovators came together to explore the future of sleep, wearable health innovation, and longevity with Oura CEO, Tom Hale.

The evening offered a glimpse into a profound cultural shift—one where protecting rest is becoming widely accepted as a prerequisite for success. Not long ago, sacrificing sleep was a signal of ambition. Today, high performers are quickly replacing that mindset with a data-driven approach where rest is a core pillar of performance and health.

“We are moving into an era where health is no longer reactive,” said Brittany Boals Moeller, region head of San Francisco Private Wealth Management. “It is data-driven, predictive, and central to how we optimize our performance and longevity.”

Tom Hale shed light on Oura’s intentional focus to empower millions to become the “CEOs of their own health journeys” by using data to gain a competitive edge in both life and business. “We give you the information, but at the end of the day, you’re the agent,” he said.

Hale thinks Oura’s success isn’t just driven by its revolutionary product—it can also be attributed to company’s culture of shared ownership. “Everybody contributes. Every second counts. Everyone should feel empowered to take action and drive the business forward,” he said.

In one of the evening’s most memorable moments, Hale shared his personal Oura sleep score. The inside look at his biometric data illustrated the clear, quantifiable link between daily habits, sleep quality, and high-level cognitive performance. This shifted the conversation to something more personal: the habits and choices that shape our sleep and performance.

Even with the availability of cutting-edge tech, Hale emphasized that health often comes back to the fundamentals: eating well, exercising, managing stress, and maintaining the deep human connections that evenings like these are built to foster. As the conversation wrapped up, Hale and guests lingered to continue cultivating relationships and exchanging perspectives on their own rituals around rest and recovery—willingly trading a few points on tomorrow’s sleep metrics for the compounding value of real-time connection.
